Iris Apfel

No one knew who I was.  I told them to Google Iris Apfel and I wound up winning second place in our office costume competition!  I feel like everyone ought to know who this fabulous woman is, so I performed my Public Service to raise Awareness for the day :-)

What do you think?  I'm kind of thinking this might not be a costume, but my new look.

Halloween 2015

This year I am using Iris Apfel as my Costume Muse.  She's a style icon and I love her creativity.
"Because that’s what style is: attitude, attitude, attitude." - Iris Apfel
It remains to be seen if I can do the "geriatric starlet" (her words, not mine) justice, but these are a few of my favorite pictures of her:

There is a documentary by Albert Maysles about her called "IRIS".  You should probably watch it THIS INSTANT.

Aspasians 2015

Saturday was the Aspasians Marketplace in Rockwall and I had my very first booth.  I learned a lot and had a lot of fun!  I did quite well which surprised me.  I had very little confidence going into it, but everyone was so complimentary of my pieces that I may feel like I don't suck at this after all. :-)

I sold everything but these 3 pieces

8' long schoolhouse bench - $250.00

6 drawer black dresser - $225.00

Vintage Vanity - $175.00

And here is my booth from the Fair...

I'm really happy with the outcome and need to get my inventory back up for the Spring!

I'm A Lucky Girl!

I've been given these two beauties by the lovely Victoria O'Brien.  She decided to get rid of them and (I still can't believe it) wanted me to have them!!.  I'm picking them up next week so stay tuned for more pictures and the restoration/renovation plan...

We had an open house at our office last night and I got the servers to keep the corks for me.  I'm saving up for a BIG project.

And just now a co-worker asked me if I could use these for anything...

Heck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Screws, paint, glitter, nails, bolts, glitter, and glitter.

Ivy and Veronica

It's been a long time since my last post.

We've moved twice, I'm studying for some exams, and I have twin 5-year old boys who make my life beautifully crazy.

I also have a full time job, I'm the company newsletter Editor and the de-facto Social coordinator. So, in other words, "I'm swamped".

And to make matters worse, I've not been able to find ANY fun real estate photos.  I think it's a Realtor conspiracy against me.

So, to get kick-started back I signed up for the Aspasians Marketplace on October 10th.  I have to get several pieces ready!  So without further ado, meet Ivy and Veronica.  I won both of these pieces at Auction.

Meet Ivy

Ivy seemed like she might have been sitting in water - the lower portion was water damaged and missing a lot of the wood veneer. I patched the missing veneer with wood filler and chose to paint her in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint's Old Ocre.  I finished with clear wax.  She's missing her mirror so I got a long wooden dowel, painted it and now it can hold linens, necklaces, or anything else that needs a-holdin'.  She has some pretty little details.

I tried cleaning the original hardware but it just came out too spotty and brassy for Ivy's tastes after HOURS of work.  So I spray painted them with oil rubbed bronze.  She's much happier.  Did you know that finding replacement hardware for these type of cabinet pulls is impossible?  It's true!!!

OK, It's not true.  But it took a lot more work than I had the patience and time for.  I think she looks very feminine with her sexy glass pulls.

Meet Veronica

Veronica is a Duncan Phyfe style dresser and was in pretty good shape, but she was missing some molding and the top was heavily scarred.  I patched the scratches and moldings then painted the body in Limestone Fusion paint (my first time using this brand).  I have to say I'm pretty happy with this type of paint.  It's a mineral based paint that doesn't require a top coat.  WAIT WHAT?  Yep, you heard me.  NO TOP COAT.  It's OH-mazing.  I sanded down the reddish stain on the drawers and then applied Min Wax stain in Weathered Gray.  I finished the drawers with 2 coats of polyurethane for just the right amount of shine.

I had hardware-cleaning phobia after Ivy, so I decided to paint the drawer pulls.  I chose General Finishes Milk Paint in Driftwood.  Mostly because that's what I had on hand close to the right color.  They turned out "fine".  Ask my husband... I do not care for FINE.

Me:    "Honey, how I do look?"
Paul:  "You look FINE".
...Back to the closet.

They needed a little more OOMPH.  I found some pearl glazing and brushed on the top.  PERFECT!

If you are in the neighborhood, come see me at my booth on October 10th!!

Tub in the Shower.

I've been seeing a lot more renovations (and new construction) where the tub and shower are in the same glass enclosure.  I can't decide if I like it.  It LOOKS cool.  It's kind of a space saver.  But how practical is it really?  I posted a poll on my Facebook Page and asked my readers if they liked it or not.  The overall consensus was that it was "weird" and "unpractical".

One reader writes:

I love my bath time, but I don't want to have to dry the entire area to be comforable! Not a fan.

Here is a plan I drew up for a family member.  They had a TEEEE-niny pair of bathrooms, back to back.  They wanted to have a shower and a 6' tub in the master bath, so I drew this up as an option. They didn't choose it :-)

So, what do you think?  Like or Dislike?

Does anyone want a free dead body?

So, today I'm glancing through Craigslist to see what things I don't need but desperately want, and I found this.

I'm thinking "That doesn't look like a Christmas Tree.  Maybe Guido uploaded the wrong picture?"  I took this screenshot to post on my Facebook page.  Because, DUH.

I just went back to look for that add to see who posted it - you know just in case GUIDO really was his name - and the posting is gone!  Either Guido recognized his mistake and pulled the add, or someone saw this picture and said "I have to have THAT RIGHT NOW".

I'm not sure which bothers me more...
